Day
Skipper/Watch leader This is the entry course
to basic seamanship, navigation, meteorology, and safety at sea. The
course is suitable for beginners and people with little experience on
cruising yachts or motor cruisers. The course is fun with a wide
syllabus which is similar to the Yachtmaster course. |

Coastal
Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore An advanced
course in navigation, meteorology, tidal affects, pilotage, planning
passages, instruments. Suitable for students who have already completed
the day skipper course or who have a background of sailing, motor
cruising, or offshore racing experience. The knowledge gained through
this course is essential in order to sail cruise safely, and to pass the
practical sea-based RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore
examinations. Novices will struggle!
Basic Navigation A Suitable for power boaters, sea anglers, divers, keelboat racers this two day course will include charts, GPS, planning a trip, tides, weather, and collision avoidance. |
VHF-DSC Radio. The RYA SRC (Short Range Certificate). Sailors who wish to communicate with other ships, harbours, marinas, and rescue coordination centres' using the VHF radio require the SRC.
The course includes use of the GMDSS Global maritime distress and safety
system, practical use of VHF and digital selective calling; routine
procedures, distress procedures, regulations etc.
Course duration.
The radio
course is a one day course. Day Skipper and Coastal
Skipper/Yachtmaster comprise 22, 2 hour lessons
over the autumn and winter terms. Basic Navigation is a two day course. |
